IAG Worried Over Heathrow Staffing Levels
Heathrow Airport may face capacity issues this summer due to an expected surge in passenger numbers, warns IAG. In its first-quarter results announcement on May 5, IAG's CEO, Luis Gallego, expressed concern that despite hiring an additional 2,500 staff in Q1, the airport's ability to cope with the increased demand could be hampered by factors beyond IAG's control.
Gallego singled out Heathrow as a potential bottleneck that could hinder the company's plans. Last year, the airport struggled to handle the surge in passenger traffic, leading to passenger caps and criticism from airlines. Although Heathrow claims to have increased staffing levels and implemented measures to prevent a recurrence of last year's issues, IAG remains skeptical about its ability to cope.
"Airports will pose a challenge this summer," says Gallego, while expressing confidence in IAG's performance. "We hope Heathrow will have sufficient resources to accommodate our planned capacity."
