London City Airport Improves Security With Leidos

Leidos CT scanners are being installed at London City Airport (LCY) in the UK to replace the airport's current conventional security X-ray machines.

It is expected that the new scanners will be operational by April of next year.

Alison FitzGerald, LCY's chief operating officer, said, "Following the one-lane trial this year, we have confirmed that the new CT scanners are high-performing and our passengers have been very impressed with them."

“We are always challenging ourselves to make the LCY experience even better, so this, alongside the £12m upgrade in the departure lounge, will mean the journey through the airport in 2023 will be even slicker, with more space and better food and beverage and retail options.”

“Thanks to the Leidos solution, alongside speed, it also delivers the highest security specifications.”

In the near future, LCY will be among the first airports in the UK to be able to offer a comprehensive CT security service.

With the implementation of these scanners, users will no longer have to remove objects such as laptops and approved liquids from hand luggage before passing them through the X-ray machine.

These scanners have been tested throughout this year, with the capacity to process up to 550 trays per hour per lane.

There is some evidence that these tests have led to an improvement in passenger experience and increased security performance.

According to LCY, nearly four million passengers will be traveling by 2023.

According to Jonathan Stone, division manager and director of Leidos Aviation, "we are thrilled to expand our partnership with London City Airport and enhance their security checkpoints."

“Leidos focuses on constant innovation and discovery. Through our next-generation technology, airports can achieve high-security levels while providing a better travel experience for their passengers.”
