Australia's Sydney airport handled 2.96 million passengers in October, which significantly improved from the 66,000 passengers in October 2021 but 26% below October 2019 levels.

The airport says it handled 2.04 million domestic passengers, which is 20% below 2019 levels. International passengers stood at 916,000, down 36% in the corresponding period in 2019.

Sydney Airport chief executive Geoff Culbert states: "For the second consecutive month our international passenger recovery is sitting at 64%, relative to the same month in 2019. The lack of seat capacity into and out of Australia is constraining growth, and to see a sustained recovery in our tourism market and visitor economy, we need to unlock more capacity as quickly as we can."
