Digital Credentials And Facial Biometrics Make Traveling Easier
Digital travel credentials are here. Travelers can now complete their journeys without having to present any physical documents at airports across the country with American Airlines' Mobile ID, which combines Thales technology and the Airside App.
Travelers can now easily get to more places and navigate more time-consuming procedures at other airports across the country using this new simplified form of air travel. Thales Head of Business Development and Strategic Marketing Neville Pattinson tells Biometric Update that similar systems are rolling out all over the world.
Travelers can now enroll for their digital credentials at home before they leave for the airport. With the app, travelers can start planning their trip, and consent to share their face biometrics with airlines, clubs, and other airport processes.
Currently, stakeholders and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) are working together to improve the process. Meanwhile, U.S. air travelers now have the option to use digital credentials and biometrics to get through the frustrating parts of air travel.
With the changes already made, passengers can only use their phones and faces to get into Admirals clubs and pass through TSA. Soon, all airport processes, from check-in to bag-drop to boarding, will work without a phone. It is sufficient to perform a face biometric check at each point of contact after the traveler has consented to the procedure.
