China Airlines to Exercise Options for Eight More Boeing 787-9s

China Airlines has announced that it will exercise options for eight more Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. The new aircraft will be added to an existing order for 16 787-9s, which was finalized in September 2022.

The SkyTeam carrier said in a Taipei stock exchange disclosure that its board approved the purchase on May 10, with the maximum value of the transaction capped at $2.3 billion.

No other details on when the aircraft will be delivered were provided in the disclosure.

China Airlines selected the 787-9 to replace its ageing fleet of Airbus A330-300s. The carrier has 22 A330-300s in its fleet, with seven listed as stored.

It also has orders for five 777-200LR Freighters and 11 A321neos.

The 787-9 is a long-range, mid-size wide-body aircraft that is known for its fuel efficiency and comfort. It is the most popular variant of the 787 Dreamliner family.

The addition of the eight new 787-9s will help China Airlines to modernize its fleet and improve its operational efficiency. The aircraft will also allow the carrier to expand its network and offer new routes to its customers.
